The Aevo System™
Our flagship product is the Aevo System™ medical device, originating with the Aevo System™ 2.0 (2015), we were thrilled last year (2019) to refine and perfect our technology to make the system more compact than its predecessor, as well as teaming it with an App to deliver the best treatment to patients. Approved Indication for use: The Aevo System™ enhances the physiological processes associated with orthodontic treatment. Regular use of the Aevo System™ during orthodontic treatment will facilitate faster tooth movement and decrease orthodontically induced tooth root resorption.
InviziShield™
Designed to meet a growing need for accessible PPE within Canada, SmileSonica is proud to have launched our newest product- The InviziShield™. Complete with ISO Certification, this Shield is graded a Class I Medical Device and is approved for use in medical clinics, as well as other industries.

We are always striving toward perfection with our products. We have taken the next step in improving our InviziShield™ Medical Class 1 Device by adding a Foam Roof. Now, both formats are available to order, pending users medical requirements and comfort preferences.

Our History
SmileSonica Inc. is a technology company focused on the research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization of medical devices for dental and health care applications. We also produce advanced materials and instrumentation for medical applications. Our offices and manufacturing facility are located in Edmonton, Canada.
From 2006 to 2008, company founder Cristian Scurtescu was closely involved in the development of an ultrasonic dental technology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB Canada. His passion to commercialize the technology and place it in the hands of dentists and patients led him to launch SmileSonica Inc. in 2008. Scurtescu resigned his position as a university R&D engineer, obtained the exclusive license to the ultrasonic dental technology, and devoted himself full-time to SmileSonica Inc.
Since 2008, Scurtescu has built and led an entrepreneurial team of engineers, scientists, and business people. This team has advanced the ultrasonic dental product from the concept stage to a commercially viable product, the Aevo System™. The original model, Aevo System 2.0 (2015), as well as its improved and compact replacement model, the Aevo System™ were both manufactured in Canada. SmileSonica, Inc. has been devoted to improving the treatment times of Canadians using the best and most up to date technology.
In addition, since SmileSonica Inc. began in 2008, we have gained broad technical knowledge, a professional network, and supply chain experience in the medical, advanced materials, and instrumentation fields. This knowledge is currently being translated into new products and services, which are currently at various stages of development and validation.
As a company, we strive for growth every day. Recently, in response to the increasing need for accessible PPE, SmileSonica, Inc. was proud to announce the launch of our newest product, The InviziShield™. We are dedicated to serving our local community, to providing relevant, beneficial products, as well as delivering an above and beyond approach to Customer Service. We have recently developed our Community Connections Campaign, which is designed to give back to the Communities that have supported us. In addition, we have revamped our website, moved to a new home, and continued working on our next product release, Intra-Gel™.

Meet the Executive Team
Cristian Scurtescu, MSc, PEng | Founder & President/CEO
Cristian Scurtescu has over 15 years’ experience developing therapeutic ultrasound devices and microelectronic products. He has been closely involved in ultrasonic dental technology development at the University of Alberta, liaising between the orthodontic and electrical engineering teams on the technology’s design, testing, and biological validation. Cristian’s passion to commercialize and distribute this technology to orthodontists and patients led him to launch SmileSonica in 2008.
Darryl Lesiuk, MBA | VP Corporate Development
Darryl Lesiuk has over 25 years’ experience in the creation and operation of technology companies in both private and public sectors. This experience includes 15 years of dental practice operations, a position as senior management consultant for Meyers Norris Penny’s Health and Dental practice, and exposure to the dental community’s approach to new technology adoption. His strengths lie in building infrastructure, creating distribution and marketing networks, commercializing technologies, and attracting investors.
John Pinsent, FCA, ICD.D | Chief Financial Officer
John Pinsent has more than 20 years’ experience in advising, financing, and commercializing technology companies. Following a distinguished 10-year career in the Assurance practice of Ernst and Young LLP, he became a founding partner of St. Arnaud Pinsent Steman Chartered Accountants. During his years in public practice, John has built a network of contacts from various industries, which he uses to help clients and investee companies build value for their enterprises.
Daniel St. Arnaud | VP Investor Relations
Daniel St. Arnaud has more than 15 years of experience on the board of directors of technology companies both advising and generating capital. He is a founding partner with St. Arnaud Pinsent Steman Chartered Accountants following a career with KPMG in the taxation, business advisory and audit practice.

The SmileSonica Sales & Marketing Team has more then 50 years of orthodontic, dental, and medical device sales experience throughout Canada. This experience includes in-clinic patient and practice management, and direct sales for international dental suppliers and manufacturers.
Product Development Team
SmileSonica’s product development team has more than 100 years of cumulative engineering and manufacturing experience with ultrasound, biomedical, mechanical, electrical, and computer systems.
Regulatory Team
SmileSonica’s regulatory team has more than 25 years of cumulative experience with medical device regulations, including Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada, Good Manufacturing Practices, Canadian Standard Association, and International Organization for Standardization.
